Nutrition Counselling

Nutritional guidance to improve and maintain your pet's general health and well-being.

Pet owners are entrusted with taking care of all aspects of their furry family member’s health, including their diet. With countless pet foods and treats on the market, it can be difficult to decide which ones are best for maintaining your pet’s overall health. Though their diet is only one component of their health, it impacts their likelihood to contract preventable diseases as well as the quality and length of their life. Our team has a wealth of knowledge to help provide the best information about your pet’s diet.

What type of food does my pet need?

Depending on your pet’s stage of life, their nutrition needs change. We can help you decide which food is best for your pet during every life stage. Identifying your pet’s life stage is a great step in deciding the food they need. For example, puppies might need more nutrient-rich food that supports their development whereas mature dogs need to incorporate more vitamins/minerals that promote bone health.

Can I feed my pet what I eat?

Some human food is really harmful for pets. They might cause stomach aches or even more serious health issues. Please avoid feeding your pets food like raisins, grapes, macadamia nuts, gum, dairy products, chocolate, raw meat, beets or even garlic and onions. Raisins, grapes and macadamia nuts can cause kidney damage or failure. Onions, garlic and beets can have a toxic impact on your pet, causing anemia. Though your pets might beg and plead for table scraps, it’s important to consult our team to ensure your well-intentioned actions aren’t negatively impacting your pet’s health.

Should my pet eat specific portions?

Yes, it’s important to not overfeed your pet. It’s a common mistake pet owners make, so try not to feel guilty if you do this. However, it’s important to consult our team at 604-858-4415 when trying to decide the right amount of food for your pet. Pet food labels can be unclear and not cater to your pet’s specific needs. Even within the same breed, there’s quite a bit of variation in the best food serving for your pet. Since portions are so individualized, it’s important to get our expertise on what works best for your pet.
