In response to the ongoing demand for update and news on Angel we are posting this brief report. Angel has fully recovered from her wounds and is back to enjoying normal dog life in Boston Bar. Angel's Family thanks the many individuals from around the world who have taken the time to email and write their well-wishes over the past several months.

Angel made her last scheduled visit today for suture and skin staple removal. All of her wounds have healed well and there appears to be no long standing damage to nerves of the head and face. Angel is very active and "her old self" again. The owners of Angel would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.

Angel was in today for her scheduled recheck and drain removal. Her wounds look clean and healthy and the drains were removed without complication. The swelling around Angel's right eye has come down and there appears to be no damage to her vision. All reports indicate that Angel is tired of recovering quietly and would like to get back into the action as quickly as possible (not to mention getting rid of the cone!). Angel will be allowed to start increasing her time with the cone off, as well as increasing her level of activity. That should come as a great relief to the owners because a bouncy retriever with a cone can be quite a handful. Angel is due to return next week for her suture removal appointment.

Angel has been discharged from the Sardis Animal Hospital and reunited with her family. She is in good spirits and basking in the affection and attention she deserves. Recovery from her wounds and surgery will take several weeks. At this time she still has surgical drains in the larger wounds to prevent fluid build up and allow infected and damaged material to drain away from the healthy healing tissues. The drains will be removed in couple days. Stitches and surgical staples will be removed in 10 to 14 days. We have been very happy to have been a part of her care and recovery. Angel has been the perfect patient.

Angel is doing very well! She had surgery on January 4, 2010 to treat the numerous puncture wounds and lacerations sustained in the altercation with the cougar. Her most serious wound was a puncture right through the skull bone over the frontal sinus near her right eye. The cat's fang had broken through the first layer of bone and fractured a fragment an inch square from the top of her skull. We wre able to wire it back in place and rebuild the damaged area of her head and face. If the fang had penetrated a half an inch further back, it could have resulted in much more serious damage and possibly death. We are expecting a full recovery. Though the surrounding tissues of the eye are bruised and swollen, her eye is fine and her vision is unaffected. It is too early to tell if there will be any long term damage to the other nerves of her face. If there is it should be partial and not impede her in any way.
See CTV news story and video footage here.Angel's indomitable spirit is her strongest asset and she captivates everyone who meets her. We are expecting Angel to return to her family soon. We will see her for recheck examinations, surgical drain removal and suture removal. We will keep this page updated with her progress and recovery notes as they become available.
